La Paz Waterfall Gardens offers a wide variety of photography opportunities. The active bird feeder attracts almost 20+ species of humming birds including Violet Sabrewing, Purple-throated Mountain-gem, Green Thorntail, the endemic Coppery-headed Emerald, Green-crowned Brilliant.
At sarapiqui, we will stay at a nice jungle lodge with fruit feeders attracting many birds. Yellow-throated Toucan, Collared Aracari, Black-cheeked Woodpecker, Scarlet-rumped Tanager to name a few.
We will cover several trails during the night walk where we can see some colorful frogs, insects, snakes and nocturnal mammal like Armadillo.
2 amazing birding hotspots spanning across morning to evening covering key target species like Collared Aracari, Chestnut-headed Oropendola, Orange-chinned Parakeet, Blue-gray Tanager, Red-legged Honeycreeper, White-necked Jacobin, Bronze-tailed Plumeleteer, Long-billed Hermit, Spectacled Owl, Crested Owl, Great Potoo, Casqued Iguana’s and very colorful and interesting insects.
At Frog Heaven you will have the opportunity to make high quality pictures of some colorful frogs like Red-eyed Leaf Frog, Strawberry Poison Dart Frog, Masked Treefrog and possible a Glass frog (very interesting because they are transparent).
Guided birding at the Bogarin feeders and trails.
The Bogarin feeders attract Yellow-throated Euphonia, Gray-headed Chachalaca, Green and Red-legged Honeycreeper, and the small pond attracts for Gray-necked Woodrail and White-throated Crake. The walking trails offer good birding with possible Keel-billed and Broad-bileld Motmot, 3-toed and 2-toed sloths.
Full day guided activity at Arenal.
The place is very isolated, and beautifully located surrounded by rainforest and with spectacular views of Arenal Volcano. They fruitfeeders here attract Montezuma Oropendola’s, Green Honeycreeper, Golden-hooded Tanagers and even Great Currasow.
White-nosed Coati loves to surprise you here with its presence.
The gardens attract Crested Guans, and up to 3 species of toucans (Keel-billed Toucan, Yellow-throated Toucan and Collared Aracari).
Many hummingbird at the purple verbena flowers could be expected like Violet-headed Hummingbird, Blue-throated Goldentail, Rufous-tailed Hummingbird and Black-crested Coquette.
At night we will walk to a pond with frogs.
Post breakfast, Drive to Carara NP.
Afternoon: photography at the feeders of the lodge. This is a macaw paradise and we are set to make some sstunning images.
Our experts guides knows the area very well and will bring you to various points with interesting species.
You will start with a lek of Long-tailed Manakin, possible White-whiskered Puffbird, Rufous-tailed Jacamar, Bright-rumped Atila.
Various points for owls, including possible Black-and-white Owl, Pacific Screech Owl, Barn Owl and Ferruginous Pygmee Owl.
Also Turqoise-browed Motmot, Black-headed Trogon and Striped Cuckoo.
And at night, just when you though it was too good to be true, we will explore the possibility to a track Common Potoo, Common Pauraque and Mottled Owl.
Early morning private boating on Tarcoles Rivier, afterwards drive to San Gerardo de Dota - home of Respledent Quetzals.
We will have access to very good fruitfeeders attracting Acorn Woodpeckers, Slaty Flowerpiercer, Blue-throated Toucanet, Sooty-capped Chlorospingus, Flame-colored Tanager, and also sugarfeeders with Lesser Violetear, Talamanca Hummingbird, Volcano Hummingbird, White-throated Mountain-gem.
Full day private birding and photography in the area + a guided night exploration.
Priority will be given for Resplendent Quetzal. Other local specialties include Spotted Woodquail, Long-tailed Silky-flycatcher, Golden-browed Chlorophonia, Spangle-cheeked Tanager, Silver-throated Tanager.
And at night guide will look for Bare-shanked Screech Owl and Dusky Nightjar
More Resplendent Quetzals and possibly additional species because of different altitude like Fiery-throated Hummingbird, Black-and-yellow Silky-flycatcher, Tufted Flcyatcher, Hairy Woodpecker, Sooty Thrush, Yellow-thighed Finch, Large-footed Finch, Black-thighed Grossbeak.
Post birding, transfer to San Jose for overnight stay.
Post breakfast, we will transfer you to the interntional airport. End of the expedition.
